Request access and complete onboarding safely
We use manual review. For faster vetting, you may optionally verify account ownership using a temporary phrase on a public profile.
Before you apply
- Set up Signal privacy first (if follow-up may be needed):
- Open Signal → Settings → Privacy → Phone Number.
- Set Who can see my number to Nobody.
- Set Who can find me by my number to Nobody (you will need to share your Signal username directly).
- Open Signal → Settings → Profile and use a display name that is not your real name if privacy matters for your situation.
- Create/use a Signal username and share that if follow-up is required.
- Use a new or burner encrypted email when possible (Proton or Tuta recommended).
- We strongly recommend not reusing usernames tied to your public identity.
- This is a recommendation, not something we can enforce.
- Save your recovery key when you create your Matrix account.
- We cannot recover encrypted history if you lose your keys.
Recommended page order
- Privacy — understand metadata limits, self-hosted benefits, and what we can/cannot promise.
- Account Safety — set up Signal privacy, burner email, aliases, and save your Matrix recovery key.
- About (including Mission & Values and Identity & Vision) — learn how the space works and what we are building.
- How It Works — Matrix basics, rooms, and onboarding expectations.
- Join — submit your request and complete vetting.
Follow-up policy: If follow-up is needed and you are not already known via prior community/Discord vetting, a Signal name may be required. No Signal name in required follow-up cases may count as a strike/denial.
Signal is used as a practical contact method for clarification, not as a requirement for every applicant.
